Ma Lee’s Rolls
Ingredients
1 envelope granulated yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 c lukewarm water
3/4 c milk, scalded
2 Tablespoons shortening
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 egg, beaten
3 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Dissolve 1 teaspoon sugar in the 1/2 c lukewarm water, then sprinkle yeast onto the surface of the water and let stand about 10 minutes. Combine hot milk, sugar, shortening, salt and beaten egg. Cool to lukewarm, then beat in 2 cups flour. Add yeast and beat well. Gradually stir in remaining flour and work in well til it forms a soft dough. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, then work down an make the rolls out in your pans. Place them about 1/2 inch apart; let rise again; dip pastry brush in water and brush on tops of rolls before placing in oven. Bake at 400 degrees til done; butter tops as soon as you take out of oven.
