North Dakota Beans

Ingredients:

1 lb lean ground hamburger meat

1 lb smoked sausage

1 lb bacon

1 onion, chopped

2 cans beef broth

1 (15 ounce) can pork and beans

1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans

1 (15 ounce) can green lima beans

2 Tablespoons mustard

1/4 cup ketchup

2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Chop onion. Cut bacon into 2 inch pieces and cook until crisp. Remove from skillet and drain excess fat. Cut smoked sausage on the diagonal into 1/2 inch pieces. Add ground hamburger in skillet where you cooked the bacon, along with chopped onion and salt and pepper. Brown until all pink is gone. Add smoked sausage and brown for about 4 minutes. Remove and drain any excess fat. Add all bacon and all cooked meat/onion to large pot, crock pot or slow cooker. Add beef broth, brown sugar, mustard, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until combined. If cooking in a pot on the stove, cook on low for a couple hours. If using a crock pot or slow cooker, cook on low for 4 hours, stirring once every hour. Serve with hot cornbread. Leftovers are delicious.
