Meat Cabbage Casserole

Ingredients

1 lb of lean ground meat

4  strips bacon, chopped in small pieces

1/2  cup chopped onion

2  tablespoons butter

1  cup shredded carrots

3  cups shredded cabbage

1  teaspoon salt

1/4  teaspoon black pepper

1  16 oz jar of spaghetti sauce

1  tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1  tablespoon chopped chives

3/4  cup grated Cheddar cheese

 

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 2qt casserole dish and set aside.

In one skillet, add bacon and cook till some of the grease is cooked out then add the onions and ground meat, cook until meat is no longer pink.

In another skillet add butter, a tablespoon of dripping from bacon, salt and pepper, cabbage and shredded carrots. Cook on medium heat, covered until carrots and cabbage are soft.

In a bowl add spaghetti sauce and Worcestershire sauce and stir.

In the casserole dish, layer half of the cabbage and carrot mixture. Spread meat mixture over cabbage and then remaining cabbage on top. Pour the spaghetti sauce over cabbage and sprinkle the chives on top. 

Cover and bake for about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and add cheese. Put back in the oven uncovered and bake until the cheese melts, about 5  minutes.
